A 48-year old man identified as Dan Gristwood is dead.
Dan, who hails from Pennyville in New York City died right after receiving $7.5m in compensation for being wrongfully imprisoned for 9 years.
According to reports, Dan died of Lung cancer at the Syracuse hospital.
Further reports state that in May 2013, a state judge awarded Dan $5.5 million for his wrongful conviction on the charge of trying to kill his wife.
In July, a state appeals court in Rochester upheld the award, which had increased to $7.5 million with interest by the time it was paid in September 2014 but unfortunately, the money doesn’t make any meaning now that Dan is dead, perhaps from the gruelling conditions of his incarceration.
